That early articulated indeed would have looked more at home in Berlin or Munich, instead of here in the States!

Interesting how the EAGLE evolved from the original "KASSBOHRER" buses of the late 1950's, with their streamlined, rounded body contours, and the later, more angular Model 01s.

Recall, back in the early 1960s, the new bus builder, "BUS & CAR" not only built EAGLE buses for CONTINENTAL TRAILWAYS and other TRAILWAYS companies, but also for independents.

Comparing the Model 01 EAGLE to a Model 05, most "casual" observers (i.e. non-bus enthusiasts) would see no difference between the two types.

We, of course, know better!

Way, way back (1990s) I recall NJT operating late-model EAGLES; I saw them often and had planned to ride one at least once or twice.

For some reason, I never got around to "flying aboard an Eagle".

Just as the immortal SCENICRUISER was (and STILL is) the most iconic GREYHOUND bus ever built, so will the EAGLE forever be the most iconic TRAILWAYS bus of all time.

Both the SCENICRUISER and the EAGLE were gleaming trademarks of their respective companies, back in the day.......

I very fortunate (to say the least!) to come across this exhaustive page; it lists all of the companies (a large number of "Fallen Flag" companies here!) which once operated the classic 4106, and there were many! (indeed, the 4106 was QUITE a POPULAR bus in its day!)

The classic 4106s Your's Truly knew best were those "heritage" buses that NJT was then operating during the early/mid-1980s, then running only on the former O&B's rush hour "RIVER ROAD EXPRESS".

I always enjoyed riding on these classics; even then, I knew they were living on borrowed time.

Like the earlier 4104s, the 4106 quickly found a solid niche in the charter sector, when purchased by New Jersey suburban carriers; and, like the 4104s, they also were used on the longer commuter runs.

Indeed, both GREYHOUND and TRAILWAYS (and affiliates) operated good-sized fleets of these now-classic highway coaches........

I also noticed that incorrect photo date as soon as I spotted that 4106; I would assume that the photo was depicting a portion of the TRAILWAYS terminal?

When that 1960's photo was taken, Philly was indeed a mecca for transit fans; bus-wise, PTC was operating Old Looks, Fishbowls, and ACF-BRILLS.

You had the 1920s/1930s BSS cars, the "Almond Joy" Market-Frankford cars, the ancient "Straffords" and "Bullets" out of 68th Street, as well as an interesting variety of "Red Arrow" streetcars and buses!

Too, PTC's PCCs and trolleybuses....PLUS the trains of the PRR and the RDG! (Reading Terminal was then still alive and well!)

And, of course, we had GREYHOUND, TRAILWAYS, PSNJ, as well as other "regional" carriers all adding to the activity.

GREAT memories, indeed, for anyone who was a "local" (or an out-of-town transit buff!) back in the day..............
