That reason is precisely why I posted that 1970 photo (at the 36th Street yards) on the first place! Wink

I also knew these were among the earliest "Tee-Yay" Flexibles (aka "Dangerfields") as they were still sporting the script lettering over the windows.....REAL buses! Very Happy

This photo was snapped four years later (at the 36th Street yards) in 1974; in the foreground we have an elderly SBK steeplecab; in the background, several two-tone blue "Dangerfields".............

Just came across this interesting (and rare) photo taken at ENY, in 1962.

Note the "4500" series "Sherman" (TDH-5101), just poking its battered nose into the picture.

Also, note the sign over the garage doors............

Same location, same year (1962)

Again, note the sign of the garage portal (Also, the stalwart "D"-types at rest overhead, basking in the Brooklyn sun)

Also, note the old line poles............

ENY, 1980's.

While a train of battle-scarred "Bee-Em-Tee" R-16s are seen clattering along overhead, down below, a scruffy-looking "Dangerfield" skulks silently in the shadows............

BMT 36th Street yard, 1970.

The antiquated SBK steeplecab seen here in the foreground indeed is in sharp contrast to the line of "Jetston" Fishbowls in the background............

Here's a particularly nostalgic scene (again at the 36th Street yards) dating from 1970.

"Tee-Yay" R-41 locomotive #57 is front-and-center here, but, of special interest, are the "Dangerfields" in the background; note both the original expansive rear window area, and also, the ad rack behind the rear wheel (part of a "Sherman" can also just be glimpsed)...........

Given that that was 1970, it seems the "Tee-Yay" were a bit behind " 'stoa" in removing the ad racks positioned behind the rear wheel, no?

W.B.:

Good point.

I often wonder why those rearmost ad racks were removed from the buses; after all, the more ads carried by "Tee-Yay"/"stoa"/"Em-Tee-Yay" buses, the more revenue there was to be added to the coffers, no?

In these classic shots at the 36th Street yards (circa-1954) there was certainly no shortage of "Shermans" on the property! Very Happy

Note also, the ex-SIRT ME-1s......... Wink

You would think. But then, Dr. William Ronan always seemed to have "spiffy" ideas for the "Em-Tee-Yay."

Garages/yards, back in the day............

At nycsubway.org (perhaps not surprisingly) there are literally hundreds of photos (and multiple photo pages) dedicated to the systems many subway yards and shops.

On the flip side (again, perhaps not surprisingly) there are very few BUS yard/garage photos on the site; and, unlike the subway facility photos, are simply "lumped in" with the other bus photos.

Following are some random vintage views (depicting REAL buses) at both "Tee-Yay" and "stoa" garages............
