(SEE PREVIOUS POSTS) Flatbush garage, 1981.
Note that "Dangerfield" #5670 is not only still in the original green, but is also still sporting the classic "Tee-Yay" script above the windows..........

(Look closely, and you can glimpse the late Dr. Frank Field on the "LIVE AT FIVE" poster on #5670's side) |

Looks almost like a cross between Park Row looking southwest in lower Manhattan, and the area just south of Eighth Avenue and 14th Street. |

W.B.:
Weird.....I was thinking the SAME thing (regarding the Park Row area)
BTW:
Am I correct in assuming that #2003 was an original "Tee-Yay" bus? I'm pretty positive that the ex-FACL and ST "Jetsons" were long gone by 1979...........

#2003 was from the last of the four "Tee-Yay" orders of "Jetsons," made in 1962. They would likely have been the oldest on the roads by that point, the 1959 (1-190), 1960 (501-805) and probably 1961 (1001-1130) bunches likewise having joined their FACL and ST brethren at the scrap heap. (Unless a few 1000's were carrying passengers in '81, I don't know.) |

.......and so...........as the blazing sun slowly sets in the west, the great and illustrious warriors of the glorious past now sit silently, awaiting their destinies with oblivion............

Further on the previous photo:
The numbers of "Shermans" #'s 9006, 9036, and 7111 are all clearly visible; also note the Fishbowls seen in the distance on the right...........

When this photo was snapped in 1969, the days of the ancient and iconic "Standards" (aka "Brooklyn Battleships") were quickly dwindling down to a precious few.
In the background, note the retired "Pattons", silently awaiting their date with the cutting torch.............

But weren't the "Pattons" for the most part in the "Isle of Staten"? That may explain part of why there weren't in this area . . . |

W.B.:
That is a good point to bring up; I had forgotten that, by that late date, most of the remaining "Pattons" wee running on the "Isle of Staten".
In "NEW YORK TRANSIT MEMORIES" (Harold A. Smith) there is a 1967 photo of "Patton" #6002 running on the R112.
The caption states:
".....the 6000-series Macks began their service life in Brooklyn, and finished out their days on Staten Island"....."
There is also a VERY depressing and dismal photo showing piles of "Brooklyn Battleships" (Standards) at the scrapyard (2200-series) in the company of some veteran "Shermans" in heaps (two of these unfortunate workhorses were #4343 and #4365*)
Weren't buses in the 4300s TDH-4510s, dating to 1948?
*Photo caption was way off, describing these buses as "20 year old TDH" types; this is indeed incorrect, as the photo caption states that the photo was taken in November, 1963.
Perhaps the photo date itself was wrong...............

I know a few of those 4510's were lent to " 'stoa" early on in its existence as they were in the process of stocking up on brand shiny new "Bullet" Fishbowls.
That photo may've been taken in the later '60's. |

MaBSTOA received approximately 479 TDH-4510 between 1963 and 1964. They were built inn1948 for the Board of Transportation.
I have a photo showing the Fresh Pond ramp with at least two Dangerfields in the shadows of the ramp. Will try to post. |

That's what I was thinking; it seemed more likely that the photo in question dated to the later 1960's, when scrapping of the remaining "Standards" was in full swing........
(interestingly, in the first edition of Stan Fischler's "UPTOWN , DOWNTOWN" the caption under a photo showing "Standards" at the scrapyard states that these cars served until the early 1970s; we, of course, know that the veteran "Brooklyn Battleships" were retired in 1969)............
