Sad commentary on the world today, but B/Os really deserve better protection from increasingly violent passengers:

That is indeed great news…something that should have occurred decades ago.
I have recently been aboard coaches in South America that have a complete bulkhead separating the “cockpit” from the “cabin”. There is a door that opens in its center to permit passengers to enter or leave the front platform to access the stepwell. On some coaches, it is a sliding door, but on others it is a hinged door that blocks off the drivers seat when open. There are windows in the bulkhead and the door to enable passengers a forward view, but the driver can lower any of three shades to block those windows, say for night driving.

If I knew how to post my photos here, I would…

Back in the early 1980s JBL tested out a similar design that was done by a driver. It was a short test and the biggest complaint about it was it felt like being in a closet. This was after a driver got stabbed over a transfer.

So how does this differ from the subway system before the full width cockpit came into use? Operators always had they're closet size cockpits. The concept for buses is the same but some modification will be necessary to fit the layout of the front of the bus.
