Here, we see the large open yard at the Box St.-Crosstown depot; single-ended 6000's dominate this view.
At extreme right, a postwar St. Louis trolleybus can just be glimpsed.......

Fresh Pond served streetcars until 1950; over the decades, BMT El and subway trains also were stored at Fresh Pond (subway trains still lay up there today)
Note the "TO WORLD'S FAIR" placard on #8151's and #8455's dashes; interestingly, the premium-fare service only briefly (PCC's were also used on this special service), as the City declared it violated the five cent fare-franchise.
This, in itself, is interesting, as the City was then charging 10 cents to ride the IND out to the Fair, and 15 cents to ride the direct bus line.
Note the brick firewalls between the sets of tracks.........

This photo shows a portion of the large yard at the Canarsie depot; here, the scene is dominated by ancient convertibles, a familiar sight on the streets of Brooklyn for decades........

Here's an interesting variety of vintage rolling stock at the Maspeth depot; this facility saw its last streetcars in 1949.............

Looks like these trolley fans are enjoying their visit to the 9th Avenue car house, back in 1955, just a year before the last runs of the remaining Brooklyn streetcars......

This photo (1940's) shows a small portion of the sprawling Canarsie shops, showcasing an interesting collection of rolling stock*.......

*Note the car on the extreme left, and, also, the car to the right of the convertible; these cars originally had started life as trailers.
After trailer operation ended in Brooklyn (early 1920's), these cars were stored for some years before being rebuilt as one-man cars, with a new entrance doorway cut into the car body at the front, opposite the motorman.
Motormen often referred to these cars as "muzzle loaders"................

Here's we have a close-up of one of the aforementioned "muzzle loaders", in service on the "WILSON"* line.
It is easy to see that these unique cars were once trailers........

Here's a rare photo of the 58th St. depot (note the 8000-series car pulling out); this car house closed in 1947............

Another photo of the Greenpoint yards; note the "muzzle loaders"on the right (some motormen also referred to these cars as "bulldogs")
The small boxes below the motorman's window would light up when the car was full, informing waiting passenger to take the following car.......
