That was a Tamiami 4107 parked at Safeway Trails’ NY garage, on 11th Avenue, between 40th and 41st Streets…directly across 11th from the NY Greyhound garage, now MTA’s Michael Quill depot. The Trailways garage was replaced for many years by the Manhattan Mercedes-Benz dealership, until that was torn down during the 7-Train extension. Not sure what, if anything completed building on that site… |

I WAS quite curious as to what company the bus in the rear was; thanks for the info!
I know that that quite a bit of that area was redeveloped for the #7 IRT line extension years back; I know it also sliced through the long-abandoned IND lower level station at 42nd ST., last used by rush-hour "E" trains in the mid-70's, and the now-defunct "AQUEDUCT" specials until the early 1980's..
I am VERY fortunate, indeed, that I DID ride "Bison" back in the day; the first was back in 1973 ("PARKER TOURS"/"CASSER TOURS") when my folks and I took a trip up to Canada.
The last were the ones that would see use on NJT's rush-hour "RIVER ROAD EXPRESS" (ex-0RANGE & BLACK) in the early/mid 80's.
I STILL call them "Baby Greyhounds" and Scenicruiser Jrs"......

Speaking of West Side redevelopment and "Buffalos".......
In this timeless 1972 view, we see a PSNJ/TNJ "Buffalo" (just outside the PABT ("Hound" alert in this picture!)
I've learned from others here that the lot to the rear of the church, where the RED & TAN Fishbowls are parked, has since been built over......so few things ever stay the same, from what we remembered from our younger days....

A busy terminal scene from the film, "MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN" (1969); here we have a "Buffalo" operated by "COLONIAL"......

Yes, we’ve looked at that (great) shot many times..
Its shot from the corner of Tenth Avenue and 40th Street, looking west. The Supercruiser is probably coming from the garage, heading to the PABT. It passed by the Trailways garage along the way, and also passed over the Penn Central West Side Line which runs under Galvin Avenue…it is now Amtrak’s “Empire Connection”… |

That one belongs to Carolina Coach Company…they switched from their former National Trailways “C”- designation, followed by the two digit year of purchase; and adopted Continental Trailways 5 digit scheme with “85” designating Carolina’s ownership… |

I remember that…it bore the fictional name “National” .
It had non-standard circular lighting fixtures installed under the package racks, perhaps to aid in the interior shots of Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman… |

As always, I greatly appreciate your always-informative historical info and related trivia!
Ahhh, so "NATIONAL" was a FICTITIOUS company: I certainly would not have known that, had you not informed me (I wonder who actually owned the bus?)
For some reason, I always can picture a young Glen Campbell, toting his trusty guitar case, along with a battered suitcase, riding along the highways and byways of America;s heartland, aboard a "Buffalo"......

Here's another (interesting!) "Buffalo"* from the movie "ASSASSINATION" (1987).
Though it reads "GREYHOUND" on the dash, note the VERY un-GREYHOUND black-on-white destination sign; also, no sign of a running dog anywhere.
The paint scheme, also, is CLEARLY not GREYHOUND.......
IT does, at least to me, somewhat echo of ACADEMY; of course, this was not an ACADEMY coach.......

*(compare with rear view of a GREYHOUND "Buffalo" in the thumbnail)

That was the first company to operate Amtrak “Thruway” buses. Such as Oakland/San Francisco or Los Angeles/Bakersfield… |
