I am now wondering idf the DOMENICO bus pictured might have been "customized" by the company (for whatever reason)

I read that the sedan door was a Canada option. I dont recall where for sure I read it but it might have been national bus trader

.......thank you for providing this VERY interesting snip of information: i did not know this.

When I first came across the pic of the DOMENICO Fishbowl with a "sedan" door, I was quite surprised, to say the least.

It would also seem (at least to me) that a Fishbowl with "sedan" door might have also been a good choice for a sightseeing operator.,......

.....I have often thought of MaBSTOA offering "premium" express service from its far northern reaches, to both Midtown and the Lower Manhattan Financial District, using single-door Fishbowls (or "Dangerfields"), "in sync", so to speak, with "COMMAND"and "NEW YORK BUS SERVICE".

I wonder now if anyone had ever even thought of this "premium express" concept, had it been thought of as being economically feasible, especially with more people then shunning the subways due to rising crime.....

"Em-Tee-Yay" planners obviously didn't think in those terms - and after the 1973 order of Fishbowls, that was it for GM from them until the RTS era, the next few years bringing forth not only the "Dangerfields," but also the "Borough Bombers" that also saw some express service. Not until the later 1980's would we begin to see the huge buses carrying the "M" logo as already in service for "En-Jay-Tee."

W.B.:

I still remember, in the later 1980's, seeing NJT's new MCI's entering service; at the time, I did not know that GM was no longer building buses (no internet then), and I always thought these big bruisers were more suited for "highway" service, instead of commuer runs.

I remember it wasn't long before you saw the remaining "indy" companies (like LAKELAND and DE CAMP) also operating MCI's.

To this day, I STILL refer to the MCI's in commuter service here in "Joisey" as "Jersey Hounds" and "Big Boy MCI's".

Cannot believe that MCI's have been operating here in "Joisey" since the 1980's.....time sure flies..... Rolling Eyes

Here we see, posing near the now-gone Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands, an early NJT "Jersey Hound" (MCI) posing with a Fishbowl and a "Dangerfield".

Man, I HATED that NJT "white dip" on the Fishbowls and "Dangerfields".....I'm sure glad the Old Looks were all gone by this time......

Here's a more modern NJT "Jersey Hound" MCI, back in 2010.

At least to my eyes, the MCI coaches STILL look more like "highway coaches", than a suburban commuter bus......

Recall, also, the mid-late 1980's MCI's purchased by NJT featured "Jersey Cruiser" destination signs.

SHORTLINE also operated this type, back in the day.

NJT once rostered 700 MC-9's; the "Jersey Cruisers" sat 49 passengers and had no lavatories.

In 1987, NJT took delivery of 415 more MC-9's from Pembina......

Regarding the sedan doors mentioned earlier...

Here are two samples from North of the Border.

The first is a photo of a Can-Car model C-44 of the Atomic Energy of Canada.

The second, an SDM-4502 of Canada Coach

AWESOME PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks for sharing with us!!! Wink

I have only seen one photo of the C-44 Can-Car buses operating for the Atomic Energy company in Canada.

The bus I have already seen (in "BUSES OF ACF", by William A Luke) brought back fond memories of the DE CAMP and INTER-CITY "Rocky Brill-boa's" which I grew up with, back in the 1960's.

This bus, however, is painted differently than the bus in the photo you posted.

This company operated both ACF-BRILL C-44's, as well as the Canadian versions.

The picture of the "CANADA COACH LINES" Fishbowl with the sedan door REALLY jarred my memory; I remember seeing one or two up in Niagara Falls when my folks and I visited, 50-plus years ago....I TOTALLY forgot about these unique buses!

I DO Have in my collection a large vintage tin "OVERLAND SIGHTSEEING BUS" (aka "SOUND BUS"), which features a VERY realistic Fishbowl front, PLUS an ACF-BRILL style rear!

This vintage toy bus also has a sedan door! Wink

Again, THANK YOU for sharing these WONDERFULLY NOSTALGIC photos of REAL buses!!!! Very Happy

"NYO"

BTW:

WELCOME BACK! Wink

One particularly interesting PREVOST coach was the customized "PRESTIGE", delivered to the "CONGREGATION YETEV LEV" in New York, back in 1977.

This customized coach, in addition to the usual "sedan" door up front, was also equipped a rear (two-panel) door; this was because it was specified that the women and men each had separate doors.

A batch of interesting PREVOST intercity coaches were built in 1950, for intercity services.

These big bruisers of a bus featured a two-panel folding door, instead of a sedan door.......

Note the folding doors on this rare intercity GARWOOD, then operated by "CAROLINA COACH COMPANY"; note how the streamlined rear is reminiscent of the FLXIBLE "Clippers" of that era.......

Is that Garwood front or rear engined?
It appears to me that it is front engined…more like a glorified step- van, than like the Clipper coach…
