In this 1973 photo (taken nine years after the illustrious DAY LINE stopped service to the 125th St. pier) MaBSTOA #6595 here displays a "125th St. Pier" sign, but, using the more modern upper and lower case-letter format......

No doubt force of habit.
But it was from those modern U&LC signs of '73 (type font Standard Medium, a.k.a. Akzidenz-Grotesk) that the ex-FACCo and NYCO lines began displaying 'M' prefices for the very first time (and in the case of FACCo's two Queens lines, QM15 and QM16) - and 'Tee-Yay' (in all four boroughs they served - M, B, Q, R) and ex-Surface lines (such as Bx29 or M104) for the first time in decades.

Agreed; "force of habit" seems spot-on.
This recalls the NJDOT "Dangerfields" that ran on the old CENTRAL AVENUE lines in Jersey City; the new buses had a rollsign reading "CNJ STA".
This ferry*, operated by the CNJ (Jersey Central RR) was abandoned in April, 1967, when the CNJ re-routed all commuter trains away from Jersey City, terminating them instead, at Newark.
So, here we had new 1976-era buses displaying a destination that already had been redundant for nearly a decade (Liberty Park, itself, was not yet being developed at the time)......

*As a kid, Mom and I rode CENTRAL AVENUE Old Looks and MACKS on this line, when going down to the terminal, prior to 1967.....a lot of great memories......

You have to squint a bit, but you can just make out "CNJ STA" on the roller curtain of this then-new CENTRAL AVENUE "Dangerfield"*.
The abandoned CNJ rail/ferry terminal area would have been out of sight on the right.
On the left, is where the LV float yard was located, used until 1976.
Back in the 60's, the float yard was still busy, as was the echoing CNJ passenger terminal, especially at rush hours.
Nothing in this photo survives today (including the iconic, soaring Twin Towers); the GOODYEAR blimp also brings back great memories.....

*Note that the bus is green; CENTRAL AVENUE buses were always brown.....

Here's one of CENTRAL AVENUE's (second hand) first-generation Fishbowls; for most of the 1960's, CENTRAL AVENUE only rostered Old Looks and MACKS.
Note that the bus is carrying only the smaller-sized ad frames.
All of the few remaining Old Looks and some of the Fishbowls were retired when the new NJDOT "Dangerfields" began arriving about 1976.
The MACKS were all gone by the late 1960's.......

In this snowy 1974 scene, we see MaBSTOA #6777 signed:
"106 TO WEST 42 PIER" (all caps)
At least this sign's "PIER" reading was appropriate, as both the CIRCLE LINE and the now-defunct DAY LINE docked at W. 42nd St.......

Looking at that pic, it looks like #8556 is going to rear-end the WMATA bus any second . . .

Indeed, the MaBSTOA version of "Close Encounters"........
Quick question:
When were the WAMATA buses sent home again, after doing their stint in "Noo Yawk"?
I am sure that new RTS replaced them........

Another quick question:
What was the total of WAMATA buses that were sent to "Noo Yawk"?
How were these divided between the MTA and MaBSTOA depots?
Appreciate info.....

Too, I've wondered how many more years of service did the WAMATA Fishbowls and "Dangerfields" put in, once back in DC, before being retired?
As I have said elsewhere, I knew one WAMATA "Dangerfield" VERY well (riding it once daily in the AM for quite awhile, back around 1995) that was running on the old NHBL #1 (Nungessers-JSQ); it had deep and comfy bucket seats, that, somehow, escaped serious vandalism; it was also equipped with an ancient NHBL Johnson farebox!
This was obviously oner of the "borrowed" buses that came "up north" in the early 80's, when the MTA's "Borough Bombers" were failing and ailing.......

THANK YOU, my friend, for taking the time to post this information......MUCH appreciated!!!
I still remember all the media coverage on the "DC RELIEF CONVOY" heading north; I remember it even made the front page of the papers!

Edgewater . . . Ah yes. Where some of the leased WMATA buses fell into the river, and the 'Tee-Yay' had to surrender some of their 1969-70 'Dangerfields' to DC when the lease time was up.
