The font variant that spelt out '7015' - once the 'Tee-Yay' and MaBSTOA-inherited Old Looks vanished, so did that type.

W.B.:

I recall you had told me this; I wonder why the "Tee-Yay" decided to abandon this style of numbering; I was always particularly partial to it.

Personally, I always found it interesting to compare different types of numbering (and lettering) on transit equipment, both bus and rail.....

That "newer-style" numbering dated to the first IND cars of 1930-31. They disappeared altogether from the scene once the last of the R38 GOH's were retired (they were ditched on the rebuilds of the R32's, R40 slant and "modifieds," and R42's). I also remember some of the Standards and Triplexes bearing those "newer" number plates in their last years in service, not unlike the IRT Steinway and World's Fair lot.

W.B.:

Compare these two views of SIRT ME-1's; when the "Tee-Yay" purchased a group of SIRT cars for BMT service (these cars were renovated prior to entering service) new number plates were installed (recall, SIRT cars originally carried three-digit numbers).......

Compare these views of "Triplex" numbers (1925 and "Tee-Yay"-era); also, note the original "front porch" configuration used on the first "Triplex" units......

The serif numbers on the ME-1's almost resembled what some bus entities across the country used.

On the front, the numerals look almost like a variant of the kind of font seen on Old Looks of 'Tee-Yay' and MaBSTOA; on the sides, looks almost like an extended version thereof.
