This timeless photo dates back to way, way back, when "juice" fans and bus fans alike could truly savor and (safely!) enjoy what the City then operated, above, on, and below the streets....(talk about a "museum fleet"!) Wink

Here's an interesting (undated) view taken at the BMT's 36th St. yard; note the clearly retired MACK on the right......

Here's a 1980's view of the same BMT facility; note the non-MTA buses parked in the background (these look like MCI Classics)........

Today, in 2022, we can no longer view battled-scarred, ancient "Lo-V's" in work service, nor can we see....or ride....."Em-Tee-Yay" buses sporting two-tone blue paint.......

36th St. yards, 1950's.

Indeed, ny historical minded transit buff indeed would not mind going back in time and taking some "snaps" of what treasures could be found here.... Wink

MaBSTOA 15:

I was thinking along the same lines, but, was not 100% sure.

Thanks for confirming what I had been leaning towards.... Wink

Grand Concourse & Bedford Pk Boulevard, 1982.

The "Borough Bombers" (GRUMMANS) were radically different from any previous type of bus operated by the "Em-Tee-Yay".

Of course, these buses, sadly, turned out to be lemons. Sad

Now, fast-forward a few years; the RTS was, like the "Bombers", radically different than any type of bus operated by the "Em-Tee-Yay", and, yet, unlike the "Bombers", went on to serve the city for the next several decades.

One can only wonder what might have been, had the "Bombers" had been built to the same rigid standards as the RTS.

Though the RTS has been gone only for a few years, it, indeed, seems like ages.....

Back in 1971, we see here several Old Looks and Fishbowls, at rest between the BMT ramps (Fresh Pond)*, clearly awaiting their final runs....to the inevitable scrap heap...... Crying or Very sad

The same location (Fresh Pond); the first two photos show Old Looks and Fishbowls stored between the BMT El ramps; the third photo (b/w), dating to 1970, shows only two lonely-looking "Dangerfields" between the ramps, on a dismal, wintry day.......

That last one was not necessarily for scrapping, but just a stopover. It was a newer one on the front, with the 'mugger lights' on top, in the 4000's.

Fresh Pond, after all, was as much a bus depot/garage as a subway yard.

W.B.:

Ahhh, that explains this, then....thanks.

I couldn't see such new buses already going for scrap.

Fresh Pond was also an important storage facilities for streetcars; from what I read, the last B&QT's streetcars departed from this location in 1950.

Transit buffs of that era could feast their eyes (and focus their KODAK "Brownies" on a plethora of fascinating rolling stock, including wooden El cars and steel subway trains, including BMT "experimentals" such as the "Bluebird" and "Zephyr".....

Fresh Pond yard, 1969.

This was the last year for the venerable and iconic "Standards"; also, the Myrtle Avenue el would see its last trains later in the year.

The "Standards" in the foreground would soon vanish, as would the rows of silent MACKS in the background......
