A perfect example of "No Respect" for a Dangerfield...
The Flxible is the demo operated by the NYCTA, number 200.
The dog shows R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
this is from a slide for sale on EBay...

MaBSTOA 15:
EXCELLENT collection of photos; thanks for posting here!
NEVER saw a photo of an "in service" "Flex Metro Jr."; the only picture I saw, in "THE BUS WORLD ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BUSES", showed a demo unit.
The "Dangerfield Jr.s" make me wish we had had them in "Joisey", back in the day!
I'm wondering (regarding the old photo showing a "Noo Yawk" pooch showing no "r-e-s-p-e-c-t"); something is telling me that the photo MIGHT have been used in a "curb your dog" campaign
Anyway, EXCELLENT pictures, once again, of REAL buses!!!
"NYO"
PS:
What route might the Old Look have been running on?

NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629... regarding your photo of an AVIS RTS "shorty" at JFK, I beg to differ with your description.
That AVIS is a 35 footer... count the number of windows between the front and rear doors. A shorty has two windows while a 35 footer has three windows.
The AVIS bus has 7 modules of 5 feet each. A shorty has 6 modules.
Note the difference between the AVIS, the NOVA flyer and the bus from NJ Transit.
BTW, I've searched the NOVA production list published in Motor Coach Today, #3, 2003 ans no AVIS 30 footer is shown.

Thanks: I do appreciate the correction; I had thought that the AVIS bus was a 30' unit........let's just agree it was, indeed, an "RTS Jr.", at any rate!

Also, appreciate the photo of the NJT "shorty RTS"; the ones I knew were running on the #751 (ex-PS/TNJ "B-1")
While I DID like the buses, I HATED the paint scheme; then again, to be honest, I was never a fan of ANY of NJT's schemes over the past 40 years......

Ahhh, Old Look Jr.s'!
Buses like these always remind me of the assorted antiques once so commonplace in Hudson County, when I was a kid!
In San Francisco, decades ago, a few "conventional" MACKS were cut down into "shorties", to enable them to make the sharp turn required at one end of a certain MUNI line("COIT"?)
"CENTRAL AVENUE" (a long-defunct Jersey City "indy" I knew very well growing up) once operated 1948 ("shorty") MACK C-33's.......

Here is one of the "MACK Jr.s" (MUNI) I'd mentioned.
The modern paint scheme did nothing at all to enhance the appearance of this classic.....

(the date of this photo is obviously wrong; more than likely, the photo was taken in or about 1957)
Here's another MUNI "shorty", this time a WHITE, in classic MUNI paint......

Date this MACK "shorty" (MUNI)* photo to 1974.......

*Many years ago, in "BUS WORLD" there was an article either about the MUNI Whites or the MACKS being cut down for service on a certain line ("COIT"?)

....if MUNI cut down several older buses into "shorties" to service a certain line, it would not be too far-fetched to learn that other properties also cut down some of their buses for certain runs.
However, to date, the only instance I've heard of this involved MUNI, and that from a long-ago issue of "BUS WORLD".......

..........if any "Tee-Yay"/"Em-Tee-Yay" bus routes would have been "home" to "shorty" buses, I would guess some of the Staten Island routes, especially in the days before the VZ Bridge was built, and the island began more "urbanized".
That being said, I can see little (if any) use of "shorty" buses in New York City, except, perhaps, "AVENUE B.".........

A "shorty" prewar MACK of "AVENUE B", seen here in 1958.
What a museum bus this relic would have made today, if still in existence......

Weren't some of the early buses from NYCO and its subsidiaries (i.e. the Yellow 728 or 731) "shorties"? Certainly the 740 was pretty short when compared with the first Old Looks they ran.
