GREAT PHOTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (thanks for posting!)
Ahhh, to travel back 50 years to 1969!
Though 1969 was, of course, a great year for the fans of the Amazin' New York Mets, it was, indeed, a sad year for transit buffs.
The last of the fabled BMT "Standards" were retired, as were the last few prewar IRT cars, then running on the Bronx 3rd Avenue El.
That same year, the famed Myrtle Avenue El closed down forever, which spelled the end for the old wooden "Q" cars, which, at the time, had the distinction of being the last wooden rail cars in revenue service in the country.
But, at least, bus-wise, there was STILL a lot to keep our attention, and to bring a smile to our faces...... |
