You're the one to ask on this one:

Was it the development of the GRUMMAN/RTS that set the stage for the gradual elimination of roller curtains?

I know I have never seen a picture of either a Fishbowl or a Flex New Look re-equipped with electronic signage, if only on an experimental basis.

Recall, too, the companies that DID use roller signs on GRUMMNS aand RTS.......

It was the beginning of the end for the old-style roll signs, for sure . . . I doubt it was related directly to the Grummans and RTS', but the fact that both buses bore the newfangled electronic signs . . .

By the 1990's, the only buses in my general area that still had roller curtains (to my knowledge) were the few remaining Fishbowls on the NHBL #1, and the NJDOT-Flex Metros that NJT was still using, and, of course the ACADEMY Metros, before they had electronic signage installed.......

....thirty years from now, I cannot (even with my vivid imagination) see any of the oversized milk cartons or giant, mutated caterpillars that pass as buses today being added to the City's "Museum Fleet" (AFAIK, the last few of the old ORIONS are the currently the oldest in the MTA fleet)

IMHO, I truly believe that, with the passing of the RTS awhile ago, the age of "classics" (bus-wise) in the city has finally come to the end of the line...... Crying or Very sad
