Speaking of the Els......

Unlike the BRT/BMT elevated lines in Brooklyn, none of the INTERBOROUGH's Manhattan Els directly connected with any of the company's subway lines (exceptions: certain non-revenue moves, such as 3rd Avenue connections, last used in 1973)

When the 2nd Avenue El ceased running in 1942, removal of the line over the Queensborough Bridge served to isolate the Flushing and Astoria lines from the rest of the system; the BMT's massive Coney Island shops then became the major site for maintaining the equipment of these two IRT lines.......

Here is an interesting historical page (w/photos):

https://www.nycsubway.org/wiki/The_9th_Avenue_Elevated-Polo_Grounds_Shuttle

This line was also unique in that it was the only line where wooden El trains served an underground "subway" station, that served only the El trains (see photo gallery)

Among transit enthusiasts/historians, there has long been many interesting "what if?" discussions if this line had been tied into the IRT subway system, instead of being abandoned......

Washington Plaza, 1972.

Note how the silver numbers on Fishbowl #6000 are quite difficult to decipher, in contrast to the gold number adorning Flex New Look #5058's dash.

Though both buses are assigned to the "#44", note the roller curtain (lettering) size difference between the Fishbowl and the Flex......
