This nostalgic photo shows a Milwaukee Old Look (bearing a dash placard reading: "BRAVES BASEBALL SPECIAL", with "STADIUM" displayed on the roller curtain, and carrying pennants (fare: 15 cents!)

......too bad our highly-esteemed (and highly knowledgeable!) friend Mr. "L." is not here with us; I'm sure he'd be interested in that "BASEBALL" roller sign (too bad that the sign description only states that it was from the Queens area....

.......I'm wondering, now, if there was ever a "STADIUM" or "YANKEE STADIUM" reading on FACCo/SURFACE roller curtains; I know that I've never seen any such reading displayed on any of the vintage photos I've seen.....

Though we've seen this timeless late 1950's scene at Yankee Stadium a number of times before, I wondering if any of the routes that stopped/terminated/started here might have reference to the stadium on their roller curtains.....

If any roll signs listed "YANKEE STADIUM," five'll get ya' ten they'd all be for Surface routes. Apart from 1924-28 FACCo had zilch presence in the Bronx, and NYCO's only venture into the Bronx was the Bruckner Boulevard-Astoria Boulevard wing of the TB route. And I'm referring to pre-1956, pre-Fifth Avenue Coach Lines taking over Surface. |

Just as, in early 1969, 'Noo Yawkers' who were more in a "feetsball" (terminology courtesy Ernie Kovacs) frame of mind had reason to celebrate when the Jets came back winners of Super Bowl III. And for years they too played at Shea.
But keying in to my "seesawing" remarks, in 1969 the Yankees finished fifth in the AL East with an 80-81 record. (And the football Giants were also in the wilderness in this period - 7-7 in 1968, 6-8 in 1969. And the Jets never came close to topping that 1969 peak.) |
