MaBSTOA 15:

Appreciate this info; I now know why older, disused "Tee-Yay" roller curtains were not installed in the borrowed DC buses.....thanks for this interesting "tidbit"! Very Happy

Or discarded split FACL- and ST- era front roll signs, especially from the Fishbowls.

W.B.:

Well, "recycling", IMHO, would have been a good choice, here, had it been utilized.

I STILL cringe when I think of all those FACCo/SURFACE rollsigns that were left on the buses when they were scrapped......lost transit history, for certain..... Sad

......At the time that the old FACCo/SURFACE buses were being junked in the 1960's, too bad the "Tee-Yay" didn't offer the roller sign boxes/curtains for sale to the enthusiasts of that era.

FAR too much transit history was lost forever..... Sad

Just a few months before those black-type-on-yellow background street signs were replaced with white type on green background with the Statue of Liberty at left.

And with the FACL/ST Fishbowls retired and scrapped, the 'Tee-Yay' now had at that point in time the oldest active fleet among their lot (them and MaBSTOA) in Manhattan (not counting Avenue B & East Broadway which was something else again).

W.B.:

I have always lamented the passing of ANY Fishbowls, but I have to admit, I felt an ever greater loss when the "first generation" buses met their demise...... Crying or Very sad

....this was the same feeling I felt earlier, when, in my area, the last Old Looks vanished forever, and, also, years earlier, when the last MACKS, WHITES, and ACF-BRILLS went to the torch...... Crying or Very sad

Another Spanish-language transit ad I clearly remember, especially back in the early/mid-1980's was for "EL PICO" coffee; I remember these ads being displayed in many subway cars, and, I would assume, were also displayed inside the buses.

I cannot, however, recall seeing any "EL PICO" ads on any of the buses......

In the meantime, this 1976 photo was snapped at 34th St. & Madison......
