Broadway & Walker, 1970.
Green MaBSTOA Fishbowl #8602 is still displaying that classic "OA" medallion....

3rd Avenue & 34th St., 1970.
The movie on the marquee certainly does not need introduction*.....

*Note, too, the "RINGLING BROTHERS" batwing ad; this bus also still has the old "OA" medallion....... |

The " '71 CHEVY" placard on the side of Fishbowl #6590* seems to be pretty worse for wear, even early on in the game.....

Lexington & 34th St., 1971.
The (slightly peeling) "TEN O' CLOCK NEWS WITH BILL JORGENSEN" batwing ad not only dates this photo, but, also, lends a distinct "Noo Yawk" air to the view....

Only batwings (from #6701 up to #8780) had OA medallions. Not "non-batwings" like this. These had the script on top of the windows.
Which reminds me, the last with the elegant scripts were:
'Tee-Yay' GM Fishbowls: #3950
'Tee-Yay' buses in general: Flx #5790
MaBSTOA: #6700 |

W. Broadway & Chambers, 1972.
Seems that #5515's driver didn't get the roller curtain positioned just right.....

That roll sign was from 1964, so the driver seemed to straddle the fence. Besides, that #10 branch hadn't terminated at Cortlandt since 1966 when, upon the area being demapped in preparation for building the WTC, its south end was moved to Vesey Street.
Given when this picture was taken, this was an early "legacy" bus to bear the two-tone blue color scheme, taking after the 'Tee-Yay' 6000's that debuted in the other boroughs (and on express bus routes to and from Manhattan) earlier in the year. |

The earliest known MaBSTOA Fishbowl to bear the two-tone blue paint scheme . . . 'batwinged' #8530, traveling along Lexington and 27th on March 26, 1972 (one day before the pic snapped at Broadway and Chambers) . . .

Notice two things long gone: not only Mays, but also WWDJ 97. |

W.B.:
Many old bus pictures ("Noo Yawk"!) from that era carry "MAYS" placards (this can also be seen in the Borough Hall sequences in "For Pete's Sake", which premiered in 1974.
And, how about that humongous '64 Caddy on the left; the 64's were also the last Caddy to sport fins (the fins on the '59's were the largest, and most flamboyant!)
