W,B.:
Appreciate the QUICK response......thanks!
Purist that I am, I much preferred the old "TA" and "OA" medallions on the 1960's buses; the replacement MTA "M" I could, more or less, live with, but, I still do not care for the present "Em-Tee-Ay" logo......

Speaking of the insignias that once adorned the "Tee-Yay" bus fleet, I've always wondered why the "Tee-Yay" did not affix the new "TA" emblems to the Old Looks and MACKS (also, the same scenario for MaBSTOA non-Fishbowl buses)
Was it that the "Tee-Yay" felt it was a waste of money to put the new insignias on buses they knew that would all be gone within a decade or less?
IMHO, that would seem the most logical reason......

The fact that Old Looks and Macks had no 'Batwings', for one thing . . . that's the only reason why the 'TA' and 'OA' insignia were so ubiquitous on those Fishbowls, the Batwings . . .

W.B.:
Good point; I had not even thought about neither the Old Looks or MACKS ever being equipped with batwings (sure would have been a sight to see, though!)
By the 70's, batwings were commonplace here in "Joisey"; TNJ's Fishbowls carried them, and they always looked especially sharp at night, when illuminated.
To be honest, I still enjoy picturing the "Em-Tee-Ays" RTS fleet carrying batwings.......

W. B. and New York City Omnibus 2629...
Here are photos of the interior of the FACCO TDH-5106 and TDH-5301 as well as the last ten Surface Mack C-49 showing the upholstered seats.
I guess FACCo and Surface were much more interested in the comfort of their passengers than NYCTA

These photos represent the emblems that were affixed to the TA and OA buses.
1. This was affixed by the TA to their GM old looks and Mack but not their fishbowls. I took this picture from the side of the museum Mack C-49.
The most interesting thing about this logo was that it was redesigned in 1962 when the city created MaBSTOA. The words Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority replaced New York City Transit Authority and the bus was replaced by a GM new look! BUT, the decal was only applied to the old looks taken from Fifth Avenue Coach and Surface Transit while they were still in their private operator color schemes. It was also applied to the TA's buses transferred to MaBSTOA, TDH-4510 and TDH-5101 before they were repainted into the two-tone green and re-labled with our favorite MaBSTOA script.
The last photo is pf an NYCTA TDH-4510 on route 6, 72nd Street Crosstown. Note the logo and lack of roof-line script. To avoid number duplication, the buses transferred from the TA had a "T" prefix added until the renumbering process was completed.

The iconic "OA" circular from a batwing
The "M" Surface logo.
I have all three are in my personal collection. The NYCTA I only have it in decal form and have not framed it yet.

And the first buses with that distinctive 'OA' insignia were the 'batwings' of 6701-6900 from the 1965-66 order - the last non-AC buses ordered for MaBSTOA.

....who ever thought that the proud old name of "MaBSTOA" would one day be relegated to the annals of transit history......I'm still hoping that, one day, a highly-detailed, well-illustrated book on its rich history will be available for sale......
