Appreciate the link; thanks!
(you've been missed here; glad you are still amongst us!)
Given that Disney Cruises have always been so popular, I've often wondered why (even though Orlando is "home port" ) Disney never offered any cruises out of New York.
It would seem (at least to Your's Truly) that decent business could be done, with at least some cruises departing New York.
In the meantime, sure hope you get to embark on a Disney cruise, one of thee days!
"NYO" | Disney does offer cruises out of nyc at times out of the terminal next to the intrepid. There are YouTube videos of the ships in ny harbor. Also the horns play ny ny while in the harbor. |

Greatly appreciate this info; I have to check out those videos, too!
LOVE that the ship's horns play "NEW YORK, NEW YORK"......MOST appropriate!
Back in the waning days of "traditional" transatlantic ocean travel, few, I am sure, ever realized just how massive a enterprise the cruise industry would become, in future years......

Disney ship horns usually play: “When you wish upon a star”, on sailaway.
Princess ships play: “The Love Boat”😁 |

Interesting to know!
How glad Your's Truly is old enough that he can still clearly recall the booming, throaty, majestic call of the late, great transatlantic steamers, when they were pulling out from a West St. pier (recall, too, unlike with the departure of today's monolithic cruise ships, when several hard-working, stalwart tugs would be on hand, assisting with the departure!)
Aaaahhh, memories.......

.......just was recalling how the old transatlantic liners utilized enclosed promenades, an absolute must when sailing the waters of the North Atlantic, especially during cooler months.
With the modern cruise ships, that spend much of their lives sailing to tropical climates, such enclosed promenades are not needed.
Given global warming, and the recent, unpredictable, stormy weather, one wonders how the cruise ships in years to come might be built with these factors in mind, or how current vessels might be upgraded.....

Some modern cruise ships, still have an open outside promenade. Some have a modern take of the enclosed promenade, in the form of a huge indoor multideck "mall", with bars, restaurants, nightclubs, shops, etc., as well as pop-up music and comedy performances, and "street performer's"... |

In the classic "I LOVE LUCY" episode from 1956, "BON VOYAGE", Lucy Ricardo exclaims that (the "USS CONSTITUTION") is just like ".....a big hotel floating on the waves..."
Just imagine Lucy's reaction to the monolithic, "floating city" cruise ships of today(!!!)

Ahhh, another fellow (like yousrelf) who is indeed "in the know"
It still amazes me how vessels the size of those mammoth cruise ships can "function" without the aid of tugboats; I've read of the "DREAMWARD" departing her Manhattan berth without even one tug in attendance, and, upon returning, being assisted by only one MORAN tug (remember, back in the day, how several tugs would be on hand, for both the departure, and the docking, of the liners of old).....

Recall, also, back in the early 1980's, how the new Staten Island ferries ("ANDREW J. BARBERI"/"SAMUEL I. NEWHOUSE") were making history as the first Staten Island boat to do away with "traditional" propellers (hard to believe these once "state-of-the-art" boats made their maiden voyage from St. George to Whitehall St. 40 years ago!)

The revolutionary "ANDREW J. BARBERI"*, a vessel that has (unfortunately) led less than a demure life (recall the 2003 and 2010 crashes?)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Andrew_J._Barberi
*Recall, when the new ferries arrived, the early 1950's steam-powered "MERRELL" class ferries were soon to vanish....... |

On a "sort of related" note.......
While sorting through my "archives" today, I came across an old children's book I bought at an antique shop years ago that I had misplaced quite awhile back; this charming little book dates to 1953, and is titled:
"THE SUPERLINER UNITED STATES: WORLD'S FASTEST LINER".
This book takes one back to the glory days of transatlantic ocean travel, when folks flocked down to the old West Side piers to watch the huge and elegant "steamers" depart for distant ports!
The author of this "Little Elf" book is J. Duncan Ford.
(the illustrations are timeless!)
If one can obtain a copy, this neat little book will make a nice addition to any maritime library......

In discussing cruise ships......and liners......we often tend to forget the "working ships" of old.
These vessels were, indeed, a breed of specialists.
These craft lacked the glamour and elegance of the big liners; their accommodations were, were the most part, quite austere.
Their speeds, of course, were slower than the sleek transatlantic liners of the day; they transported budget tourists, immigrants, refugees, religious pilgrims, and even troops.
The more modern 'working ships" were better designed to handle passengers; they were designed to transport both passengers and cargo in a more equal ratio.
The faster and more spacious of thee ships were designed more to carry single-class immigrant and low-fare tourists.
With the advent of inexpensive charter jet flights in the 1960's, these ships eventually sailed off into oblivion.......
