Silversides and 4103's in 1959? Sounds like nothing has changed at Greyhound since then...today they also use their oldest equipment for charter's, unlike every other company that usually puts their newest and best equipment on charter's, to garner repeat business.
Greyhound has always put their line operation above charter's in priority, and only seems to accept charter's "as a favor", often multibus conference shuttles... |

Odd that you should mention this.......
Back in the 60's, when Your's Truly was still attending Catholic grammar school, I can only recall ONE charter for our school trips where we had Fishbowls; this was for our June, 1968 class trip to the Statue of Liberty (sadly, this was also the same day that RFK passed away)
All of our other school trips utilized Old Looks (I also recall our classes traveling on RED & TAN and BINETTI Old Looks)
Oddly, I cannot recall our school ever doing business with PS for our school charters.
I also remember seeing SILVERSIDES and 4103's operating for various charter outfits, back then.
Once the SCENICRUISERS and 4104's hit the highways, the SILVERSIDES and even the 4103's began to look "dated".
It all seems so long ago, now........

Thanks NYO.
It makes sense about the pull cord on/in a parlor car coach.
If used with a local company instead of Greyhound, they probably had more stops than the "leave the driving to us" company. |

You are quite welcome!
Back in the day, a number of NJ "suburban" companies would not carry "local" passengers on routes that were traveling to/from New York.
An exception was DE CAMP's long-gone #22, which ran between Journal Square (Jersey City) and Caldwell; "local" passengers could board or alight anywhere along the route, at a designated stop.
The old DE CAMP #'s 145/146, which ran only as far east as downtown Newark, also carried "local" passengers".......

A question came up on another forum, I am seeking the answer to...
Does anyone recall when Greyhound owned what is now the MTA Quill depot, if Greyhound had a “satellite” Package Express facility at that location for shippers?
Would appreciate any info... |

Thanks for the links, but they provide nothing at all to answer my question.
Walking entirely around the building doesn't even provide any clues as to where such a facility would have been, if it in fact had...The only 'retail store', was the Maier-Lavaty uniform shop for the driver's on the 11th avenue frontage, and that is now covered up...no sign of a driveway or parking lot for shipper's, anywhere.... |

Well I was 'out west' from 1971 until 1989, and did not get back into the 'bus business' until 1994, so I was not up on what was going on. By the time I got back into it, Greyhound had moved out of there...
And since I have retired, and moved down to Florida, I am no longer in the Port to ask old time employees, that would know, about it... |
