Remembering when FACCo. was still not a company only to be found in memory or books......

It's interesting that you posted two 1955 photos, one outside Grand Central Terminal with a Shelter sign, the other from Nostrand Avenue and Avenue R with two Macks and no Shelter sign. I prefer the Macks.

Joe:
I always loved the Old Looks, but have always had a special place in my heart for MACKS.
In my area of New Jersey (only 15 minutes from Journal Square) MACKS were quite commonplace through the later 1960's, on the NHBL.
There were also MACKS on the SHBL, L&G, and CENTRAL AVENUE lines.
I can remember several different models in use back then; when Mom and I would take one of our many day trips to Staten Island (nearly 60 years ago!) I can remember seeing a lot of MACKS at the St. George terminal, as well as many Old Looks.
I can also remember Mom and I riding MACKS to South Beach (Mom remembered riding the SIRT to South Beach with her family, when she was growing up)
MACKS always reminded me of an old-time heavyweight fighter; they seemed to have a "swagger" that further accentuated their overall toughness.......I miss those old buses still!

That's actually the old Pennsylvania Station, looking west on 32nd Street towards the 7th Avenue entrance...

I had meant to make notice of this little error earlier myself, but forgot to.
Thanks for saving me the trouble!
At least, the majestic, elegant, and historic GCT is still with us today; today's Penn Station has all the ambience of an underground shopping mall.......

In more ways than one, this 1981 photo oozes nostalgia; note the building on the right (with several dormers); until 1937, this building was a NYW&B station.
The Fishbowl (#8401, running on the Bx34), huge autos, and store signage all wonderfully date this old photo, now nearly 40 years old.......

From a film, a shot of FACL New Look #3151 in its original color scheme, traveling along Broadway heading towards Times Square (check what was then the Mutual Of New York building in the background) . . . notice the mylar Transign roll signs on each side . . .
This was the second wave of New Looks ordered for the company - and the last (outside of Surface Transits 3161-3210).
