As an original Met fan since 1962 may Tom rest in peace. Thanks for all the great memories you gave us

Hart Bus:

The late "Tom Terrific" (may he RIP) has been hailed as the "Greatest Met"; on 1010 WINS News Radio last evening, this one sportscaster commented on how "When you saw Seaver on the field, you knew that the Mets (aka "The Loveable Losers") stood a damn good chance on winning the game." Wink

Another icon of another era has left us for greener pastures (make that "ball fields", especially the now-gone "Shea")........ Sad

Yesterday (Sunday) the "Amazins" beat the Phillies, 14-1. Very Happy

Perhaps, looking down from that great Shea Stadium in the sky, the late Tom Seaver was "helping out" his boys achieve one heckuva rousing victory! Very Happy

At the very least, "Tom Terrific" was indeed smiling down on the Mets yesterday...... Wink

...and across from Shea we had buses at the World's Fair. Note the variety in this 1939-1940 view

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

I REPEAT:

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Now THESE are BUSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy

Note the number of PS ASV's in the 1940-era photo; too, note the placard in the rear window of the ASV facing away from the camera for the 125th St. Ferry, which PS operated until 1943.

The later photo.....OMG(!!!!)........Old Looks, 4106's, IC-41's, 4103's......dang, what great memories these old buses bring back! Very Happy

The late Jim Lehrer would have indeed been like a kid in a candy shop, surrounded by all those magnificent classics! Very Happy (the same goes for Your's Truly!)Wink

THANK YOU for sharing these truly AWESOME old photos! Very Happy

.....while thinking about the "Amazins", and hoping they get to play a longer season this year, I started wondering about Mets players that hail from the "Noo Yawk" area.......and, if they once rode the buses or the subway, back in the day....... Rolling Eyes

Speaking of the Mets, I'm curious as to whether any of the old private companies (or the "Tee-Yay") ever operated specials to Shea Stadium on game days.......

Jamaica Buses did charter work back then. I'm trying to recall if I've seen Queens Transit buses at Shea, was many years back.
Back during the early 1970's, I had seen Queens Transit and Jamaica Buses on I-87 around the Woodbury area chartered bringing city kids upstate, part of the Fresh Air Fund.

B53RICH:

Thanks for your input; I know that, if a World Series game was being held at either Shea or at Yankee Stadium, there would be special (subway) trains carrying fans to the ballparks.....
