A timeless view of the "Brightliners" on the "Q" line, way back in 1967.

The scourge of rampant graffiti on the subways was still several years away, when this classic scene was captured on film......

BUDD's first stainless steel rapid transit cars, the sleek and smart "ZEPHYR" of 1934.

This unique and modern unit was the second experimental rapid transit train to operate using the full-width cabs that are commonplace today (the first was the earlier "GREEN HORNET"/"BLIMP" also operated by the BMT.

Interestingly, the first production model subway cars for New York to utilize full-width cabs were the 1936 BMT "Multi Section" units.

As for the silvery "ZEPHYR", the modernistic little train spent most of its working life on the Franklin Avenue line (long a haven for "oddball" equipment) until well into the 1950's...................

STEPHENSON on the streets of Brooklyn:

The company, not surprisingly, built a number of electric streetcars for service in Brooklyn over the years; the very first arrived in 1894, at a time when electric streetcars were indeed the wave of the future.

The last STEPHENSON cars built for Brooklyn were built between 1904 and 1905.

Other builders that supplied electric streetcars to Brooklyn included:

OSGOOD-BRADLEY

ST. LOUIS

JONES

J.G. BRILL

LACLEDE

BRIGGS

BROWELL

PULLMAN

ACF
