Since heavy truck and bus transmission's have too much torque to use the "synchromesh" synchroniser's that manual automobile transmission's do, the "constant mesh" transmission's require double clutching and proper RPM matching to avoid clashing or grinding gears. When downshifting, the driver must 'blip' the throttle while in neutral, to raise the rpms, while in neutral to the proper speed to select the lower gear. It is an 'art' that takes some practice, but once mastered, is a very satisfying skill to possess...

One thing that is actually easier to do with a constant mesh tranny than a synchro, is to change gears without even using the clutch...that's a real skill... Smile

Nice brochure, thanks for posting it...
Its specs were just about identical in many areas to the PD-4501 Scenicruiser, except IIRC, the Scenic was 132" tall...an inch and a half taller?

That's true...with its single deck design, it was a lot easier to squeeze in an extra row. Greyhound did that near the end of the Scenicruiser's life, to use on several California commuter runs.
