I also find it unusual that Mr. L has gone a month without posting. I certainly hope that everything is well with him.

Jimmy:

The more "in depth" this thread became, without any of Mr. "L's" astute comments and historical trivia, the more I noticed his absence.

I certainly hope our always-knowledgeable friend is well and doing OK.....sure hope he returns to the board soon.......

traildriver:

Agreed!

That is the FIRST time I have ever seen a photo of this most unusual WF "bus"; it reminds me more of something you would have seen cruising along the boardwalks of some old-time beach resort, back in the day!

Wonder who built this interesting little vehicle......

Seattle, 1962; this beautiful "WORLD'S FAIR BUSES" sign would make an outstanding addition to any bus collector's collection today! Wink

As an added bonus, check out that beautiful SILVERSIDES on the left!

Ahhh, the good old days....... Very Happy

Fifth Avenue Coach offered World's Fair service for the 1939-40 fair. It had a branch of Route 15 (Jackson Heights) to the Corona Gate. YC 720 double deckers provided the service.
NYC Omnibus also operated a premium fare express service from 137 St in the Bronx, via the Triborough Bridge and Astoria Blvd. to the Corona Gate. YC single deckers were used.
Also, Fifth Avenue Coach extended the Route 16 Elmhurst Crosstown to the new LaGuardia Airport between 1940-42.

Great info....appreciate you sharing this here.

Man, would I love to see photos of those FACC double deckers at the '39 Fair!

The subject of "World's Fair Buses" certainly is a fascinating one, especially when one discusses the buses that carried fairgoers TO the Fair*, and not just those that carried merrymakers about the grounds.......

"NYO"

(* I believe there was also service to the '64 Fair from the GWB terminal as well; long ago, in a library book on the history of the Port Of New York Authority, I remember seeing a 1964 photo of an Old Look (Red & Tan?) signed for the Fair, awaiting departure from the GWB terrminal)

More of a "trailer bus" or "people mover" than a "bus", this hulking monster from the 1933 Chicago fair rates inclusion here........NOT your typical "Hound", by ANY means! Rolling Eyes

NYO...I know many driver's that would love it if they could have that kind of separation from their passengers.... Wink

I suppose they carried a conductor to collect fares back then.... Smile

traildriver:

Perhaps tickets were collected by a ticket-taker at the beginning of each "tour", and passengers retained the stubs when they wished to re-board.

Only guessing, here, you understand!

That mechanized brute was indeed more of a "big rig" than a "BUS"! Shocked

Toy replicas of the GREYHOUND trailer buses were also sold at the '33 Fair; here is one of them......

Talk about CLASS! Shocked

One would think that this dapper GREYHOUND driver was sitting behind the wheel of a SCENICRUISER! Shocked

Yep, appearances truly DID matter, back in '64! Wink
