The only other airport I can think of is lga. I also think it could be a shuttle at a park (like jones beach) or maybe at Belmont race track.

Tiny Tim,

I might agree with you except that the sign on the side of the bus says 'Between Terminal' and lots #'d (BTW) Jones Beach has Robert Moses style wooden street lamps!).

Also, I believe that by 1971 the Port Authority (PONYA) was using their own equipment as shuttles between terminals and parking lots.

However, this subject is still open to debate and I do stand corrected on whatever I have said.

Also BTW; I seriously doubt that these buses would have passed muster with any PONYA facility inspection what with the careless way that they are refueled (noting the Diesel fuel residue splashed over the bottom panel amidships).

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

Intersting that there is a similiar type of terminal 3-4-5 sign on a bus I posted a photo of in the Vintage Nassau Thread that was lettered for The Port Authority of NY and NJ. That sign said Termianls and Lots 3-4-5 and the bus was a New Look and the photo was taken 4 years after the one you just posted also not to mention the bus in the photo was numbered 39.

I'm not saying that bus you posted above is a Port Authority bus, just there buses have similiar signs and the photos were taken in a period of four years.

If it was a Port Authority bus, maybe they brought it used from Long Island Bus Company because they had a shortage of buses or they had faulty or older buses they needed to replace right away and a new order wasn't close to arriving yet and they brought those to bridge until the new buses came in? (That would explain why Long Island Bus Co is on the side and why the bus wasn't up to Port Authority (PONYA) standards.)

The RTS were bought by the port and had bus plates as Hudson general was listed as owner on the registration. This was part of the contract with the port.

I remember the yellow, 3 door Mercedes, Airlines Connection buses at JFK that lasted until the New Looks replaced them.

The original New Looks were brown for Long Term and Employee parking. The yellow ones were for the Central Terminal area. I do not recall the JFK buses indicating lot numbers on the roll signs. They were operated by either Jetway or Jetlink Transportation, if my memory is correct.

The RTS buses at JFK were operated by Hudson, again yellow for Central Terminal Area, brown for Long Term / Employee parking.

I would suspect that the picture of the 3 (look again, there are 3) Old Looks are at LaGuardia, with the photographer looking from the Terminal towards the GCP at the far end of the airport, closest to Shea Stadium, before the 2 new terminals were built.

Here is a photo of Huntington Coach Corp #404, which was one of two 1969 GMC T6H5306A's brought by HCC. Also listed was Bayhunt Associates Corp which is hard to see but is listed as Owner on the bus behind the front wheel area. The photo was taken outside Walt Whitman Mall on July 10, 1976.

While looking at archived issues of the Stony Brook Statesman online I came across photos, although not very good, of SUNY Stony Brook 1973 GMC T6H4523N #10. The Bus was between 3 and 5 years old when the photos had been taken.

Wow that brings back memories. My son had a friend whose dad and the dad's friend each both used SB fishbowls around 1993 or so. They still had the SB livery on them. Can't remember which one my son's friend's Dad got. Think it was #9.

A twist of the roll sign reveals that it was bought used from somewhere that had routes and destinations that were foreign to the NYC area.

Hmm that's interesting.

Red an article from the mid 70's that mentions an bus #7 that they labeled as old and Blue that had an font engine, that they converted from Gasoline to Diesel on the advice of someone because it was better. Apparently when the engine was fueled by Gas, they had to change the engine twice a year. Drivers complained that the Diesel engine was two loud and caused them to have headaches , and SB had kept having to keep working on trying to keep the sound level down. At the time #7 was a spare bus. They had a second bus the same way, though it's number wasn't mentioned.

Follow-up : After looking up at OMOT lists, I realize that my memory isn't as good as it once was. Bus 10 was T6H 4523 Serial # 0556 and its sister was serial # 0557 both delivered new in Sept 1973. The bus that I knew had an A/C unit and may have been #17. Seemed to be a 53XX. Also the route sign indicated that it was bought used from somewhere out of NYC.

While looking up something I found in an ad that was in an archived issue of Stony Brook Statesman I discovered a relationship between Quinn's Bus Line and Coram Bus Service.

Through archived minutes from the Town of Riverhead, It seems that by 1969 Coram Bus Service was an affiliate of Quinns Bus Line and at that time Coram Bus Service had received Quinns Riverhead to Brookhaven Town route.

Here's an article from 1941 that talks about how Quinn's Bus Line had been giving the right to run a route from Patchouge to to the Brookhaven-Riverhead town line, via Camp Upton; and from the town line to Riverhead Circle. The route though couldn't carry riders locally between Patchouge and Bellport.

Here are a section of minutes from the Town of Riverhead meeting on Feburary 4th, 1949 where bother Louis A. Fuoco and Henry W. Adelwerth (Adelwerth Bus Service, now Adelwerth Bus Corp) are asking to run routes in the town over the same area.

Fuoco from Riverhead to Patchouge (Now the S66)
Adelwerth from Riverhead to Center Moriches (Possibly via Westhampton as they had tried once before this, Now the S90)

At the time the Town's permission was held up because Sunrise Transportation Co, most likely Sunrise Coach but not using that name at the time, had been granted the approval to operate a route that traveled the same parts.
