From our friends up north at CPTDB:

The MCA issue covering NYCO is long out of print (and probably priced the same as a Mickey Mantle rookie card) so this gives us modern bus historians a glimpse of what NYCO ran "back in the day".
Enjoy! |

It should be noted that NYCO #2969 from the 1950 set of TDH-4509's was the bus Jackie Gleason and his Honeymooners cast were in for the publicity photos taken for the show in August 1955. Wonder if that particular bus lasted to the point when MABSTOA assumed administration of NYCO, FACCo and ST (Surface Transit) routes in 1962. The fact that an ex-NYCTA bus is now on display as "2969" for annual demonstrations is proof of what the status of the original 2969 is today. |

W.B. Fishbowl,
NYCO TDH 4509 # 2969 (the Ralph Cramden Special) may well have been one of a large number FACCO and ex NYCO 4509's (all under the flag of Fifth Avenue Coach Lines (FACL) at the time) that continued in city service at least until MABSTOA began to replace the fleet with GM New Looks after the 1962 takeover.
There may be records as to how many and what fleet numbers were involved but I have not seen them.
The only 4509's from the group that have been recorded after the fact are fleet #'s 2390, 2391, 2408 - 2411, 2429 - 2437 that went to FACL affiliate Westchester Street Transportation and those were all of Fifth Avenue origin.
As far as the museum's TDH 5101 in disguise as 2969 goes, I think it's a hoax being perpetrated upon the public - the bus, which was thankfully saved by the FDNY, deserves to appear exactly as it did in service with its own 4,000 series fleet number.
Regards,
Mr. 'L' |

There was a group of TDH-4509's that were delivered in "Eight Avenue Coach Corporation" lettering in 1951. They only lasted that way about a year before Eight Avenue Coach was absorbed into New York City Omnibus, and then Fifth Avenue Coach Lines. The fleet numbers are in the Motor Coach Age issue of NYC Omnibus. |
