Taken sometime in 1949 at its company facility is fleet # 349 - a 1935 Mack Model CT and, if not the only likeness, was one of an unknown number of the model operating for the Atlantic City Transportation Company of that famous Garden State resort.
The 35 passenger 'CT', a stretched out version of the model 'CQ', made its debut in 1935 with only minor rear end modifications for 1937 to accommodate an engine change and gained power from a 525 cubic inch, 125 hp. gasoline engine combined with a 3 speed mechanical transmission but was also available in either Diesel or Gas Electric adaptations .
Although rather sluggish on the uptake, the CT's were reliable and popular among operators with a total of 574 including all versions being built between 1935 and 1943.
Of note on # 349 are the passenger safety bars across the lower portion of the sashes which were required in New Jersey.
Atlantic City Transportation Co. provided the "mainstream" transit service in Atlantic City which was complimented by one of the largest and oldest 'Jitney' associations in the country dating back to 1915 and is still in service.
Photo courtesy of '4509bus' and is up for adoption on eBay as item # 370803566924.
