I am new to the forum and was just wondering if anyone could help me out with some info. I am trying to find out if either Gillig or New Flyer make buses that are used on commuter express routes. The routes that run longer distances with fewer stops. I've tried google news searches and going to metro magazine but I haven't come up with much. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Yes, both companies have built suburban versions of their standard transit bus models that feature high-back seating and parcel racks. Some of these buses also have the rear door omitted to allow for more seating. Examples include Connecticut Transit's New Flyer suburbans in the Hartford area and Regional Transit Service (Rochester NY)'s single-door suburban Gillig buses. |

Thank you so much for the prompt response. Do you happen to know the specific models that are used and if they were made just for those Metros? I had always thought of Gillig and New Flyer as making buses for inside the city specifically. Do you think the long-route buses from these manufacturers are a trend or just an isolated example? |

VTA has just put single door Gillig hybrid's into service on some long express routes. They have high back seats and racks. VTA also uses Gillig low floor's and New Flier artic low floor's on their 522 route. This is a limited type express run that is much harder for the coach. It is also a very popular run for passengers that they will let a 22 route bus that has the same basic route go by and wait for the next 522 |

Here's one. Truth-be-told, all PRTC buses have just one door, but this bus does have a suburban interior.
